Selalie Quashie Handicrafts (sQ) is an African oriented bag/luggage & accessories company that aims to promote the use of African prints and accessories made in Ghana. We combine African prints with leather and other fabrics to make contemporary products like laptop bags/sleeves, backpacks and handbags.
We strive to promote Sickle Cell awareness through partnerships with NGOs and are also seeking to do our part in alleviating climate change by promoting the use of fabric and leather tote bags instead of plastic bags.
Currently, there is only one employee at sQ who doubles as the founder as well as the designer, producer and social media manager and she looks forward to creating more jobs as the business grows and projects expand.
“Without any special training, I started sewing backpacks and laptop bags when I was 17 and still in school. I decided to take it seriously when I had to take a gap year after completing my A- levels and without any funding, I managed to set up a startup in 2017. Since then, I have introduced over fifty new products and have run my business fairly well via Instagram, Twitter (@selalieq) and through references from friends but there is clearly more room for improvement. Getting investors to scale- up has been quite difficult and that’s why I’m creating a go-fund me. Hopefully, you can contribute towards a viable dream to make it a beautiful reality”
- Selalie Quashie, Founder and Accessories Designer at sQ.
